Personal Overview - Former military officer who moved into journalism in the late 1980s, spending a ten year spell at BBC South as their Dorset correspondent. He is a new recruit to political ranks, without the usual adviser or local government experience common to the ranks of new intake MPs - in fact his career path precluded the possibility of significant political activity being either in military or BBC service. In 2006 he took over the running of the family estate, retiring from the BBC at the same time. He is a well known figure locally and is likely to cement a considerable personal vote in the two or three Parliamentary terms he is likely to serve prior to retirement.
Political History - Member for Dorset South (2010-). Member of the Environment, Food & Rural Affairs Select Committee (2010-).
Characteristics - Performed Trooping the Colour during his years in the Coldstream Guards, as well as serving three operational tours of Northern Ireland. As the eldest son of Walter and Pamela Drax he is the heir to the Charborough Park estate (near Wareham). Patron, Cherry Tree Nursery - a mental health charity.
