EXTENDED STAY: Chris Blackburn
EXTENDED STAY: Chris Blackburn

WEYMOUTH boss John Hollins reckons victory for his side at Farsley Celtic on Saturday could be "psychologically decisive" in the race for Blue Square Premier survival.

The Terras beat play-off chasers Exeter City 3-1 on Monday and have lost just once in their last six games. That run of form has moved them into 18th spot, three points above the Little Celts who sit fourth bottom.

Hollins said: "The whole squad is bubbling and buzzing, and all of a sudden it is like a big cloud has been lifted but we cannot think that is it. We have got to do it all over again and not just tomorrow but for the rest of the season.

"If we can perform at the same level we showed on Monday and not be complacent then there is no doubt that we will win more games but to do that we have got to keep working hard and keep producing.

"There are eight games left and if we won them all we would end up with 60 points. That has got to be the goal. There is no point in thinking if we win two more then hopefully that should be enough.' "We drew 0-0 with Farsley a couple of weeks ago and I am expecting another tough encounter tomorrow but there is no doubt that if we do manage to beat them, psychologically it could prove decisive.

"At this stage I think we need five more wins to make sure of staying up and that is not going to be easy."

Monday's victory over the Grecians was only the second time this season that the Terras have scored three in a league game and Hollins reckons regaining that scoring touch is a huge morale booster.

He added: "Farsley have suffered two defeats on the spin and someone is going to pay for that but it is not going to be us. We need to go there and be big and strong, and challenge for every ball and be disciplined just like we did against Exeter.

"Scoring three goals against a team like that is no fluke, and now we have shown we have that in us we should be able to build on it and keep moving forward."

Cambridge United midfielder Mark Convery has signed a loan deal until the end of the season and will be in the Terras' squad for tomorrow.

Hollins said: "Mark has good ability, he can thread balls through to runners and he is also capable of scoring a few himself, and with Paolo struggling with a groin and Marcus with an Achilles it gives us the cover that we need.

"Both Paolo and Marcus' injuries are horrible. They are the types you can rest and rest but then when you return, they can easily flare up again. Both men are still in their fighting for the cause and working as hard as they can to get fit and we will just keep monitoring their progress.

"We will also be doing the same with Trevor Challis, who has a calf strain, and Jake Hyde, who has twisted an ankle. Jake has had a similar injury before and is optimistic that he will be able to return quicker than he has been told but we will just have to see how it goes."

The deadline for loan deals this season came to an end at 5pm yesterday and it has been confirmed that Chris Blackburn, Matt Bailey and Tony Bedeau have extended their stays at the Wessex Stadium until the end of the campaign, although Bedeau is on a 24-hour call back.

Keeper David Roberts is also expected to stay with the Terras despite being recently linked with a move to Southport.

Hollins said: "Southport have two goalkeepers already and would have to let one go to bring David in so he will be staying with us. And with Stephen Henderson on 24-hour call back it is good to have him and Jon Stewart as cover."

Great news that the club has managed to extend the loans, especially Blackburn whose experience has been a major boost in our relegation battle.

As one of those long enough in the tooth to remember, am I alone in seeing much of one of our yesteryear heros, Tony Hobson in Chris Blackburn.
No, I don't just mean a bearded wonder - but a commanding, assured and real leader. What a find when we needed it most.
Well done to JH & Co for finding him, and to MC for finding the budget
