THERE was added interest in last night's Champions League final at a Weymouth care home.
Former Chelsea footballer Harry Hughes was left disappointed as his old team were edged out on penalties by rivals Manchester United in Moscow.
Mr Hughes, 79, was joined by staff and fellow residents at Mount Pleasant Residential Home in Weymouth as he watched the big game.
The former soccer star played for the Blues in the 1950s before turning out for Bournemouth and Gillingham
Last night Mr Hughes donned his Chelsea scarf to get behind his team as he savoured the big match experience.
A tense night saw his side battle bravely before John Terry and Nicolas Anelka missed from the spot in the penalty shoot out to hand United the trophy.
Mr Hughes was captain of Bournemouth in their giant-killing cup run in 1957 which saw his
Third Division side
beat top flight teams Wolves and Spurs to
reach the quarter finals. But unfortunately for him it was the team in red who tasted cup success last night as they completed a Premier League and European Cup double.
Colin Smith from Mount Pleasant Residential Home said: "Harry was a big name in football and we wanted to make a big thing of watching the match."
