Cup clash postponed

MARTINSTOWN skipper Chris Read was quick to express his disappointment after last night's postponement of the Dorchester Evening League Knockout Cup final.

Read's men were scheduled to meet Herrison Youth at the Rec but the poor weather forecast and the prospect of today's local derby between Dorchester and Weymouth, which is to be staged on the same wicket, caused the showpiece to be put back to next week.

Read said: "We think it could have been played. It rained a little bit at 6pm but not much and to be honest I think the Dorchester versus Weymouth game has taken priority.

"It is a shame because both teams had really strong sides out and it would have probably been a really good match.

"We have been told it will most likely be re-arranged for Wednesday now but that is yet to be confirmed."

Dorchester's meeting with Weymouth in the Dorset Funeral Plan Premier League will start at 1.30pm and it promises to be a cracker with both sides desperate for victory to boost their title aspirations.
