TWO friends who had not seen each other for 62 years have been celebrating together in Weymouth.

Nadine Hounsell, 82, of Pretoria Terrace, Weymouth, and Dorothy James, 82, from Lowestoft, have spent most of this week chatting together and catching up on more than six decades apart.

Their reunion was only possible because Nadine suddenly decided to try and find Dorothy because she missed her old friend.

She used the internet to get a rough idea of where she was living and posted her a special letter.

Dorothy said: "I came back home from a holiday in Spain and I found her letter on the doormat, and what a letter it was!

"On the front of the envelope it had my married name, my maiden name and a plea to whoever saw the letter to try and find me, and it worked.

"Inside was a brief letter from Nadine saying she hoped it found me and giving me an address to write back to her, so I did.

"The only mistake I made was to enclose my telephone number, so she rang me and we were still on the phone after an hour and half!

"We arranged for me to come down for a week and stay in a hotel so I could visit her and that's what I am doing."

Nadine said it was lovely to see her old friend again after so long.

She added: "We've been chatting while visiting various places such as Dorchester, Portland and Poole."

Back in the 1940s the two of them used to go dancing together and both say they still dance now.

Now that they have renewed their friendship after more than six decades apart the next step is for Nadine to make a return visit to see Dorothy in Lowestoft.

Nadine said: "We won't be able to do it this year but summer 2009 seems a nice idea.

"Of course, if I win the Lottery it will be next week, but I have already hit the jackpot once by finding Dorothy."

Dorothy is staying at the Berkeley Hotel on the Esplanade and Nadine said: "We would particularly like to thank them because they heard about our reunion and have given us a free meal on our last night together, which was very nice of them."
