DORCHESTER Town chairman Eddie Mitchell has fired another warning to the local community that they must start embracing the club or they could see it suffer a dramatic fall from grace.

A VAT bill of just under £25,000 has hit the Magpies hard and the property developer has insisted that crowds must improve if their status in the Blue Square South is to be sustained.

Mitchell said: "We have got a VAT bill of just under £25,000 that has to be paid and we have agreed terms with the VAT office to pay it in instalments which is very helpful.

"But it is putting the club under financial pressure and at the moment we are playing two leagues above what our gates allow us to play.

"If we do not get those gates up then this level of football will not be maintained, and I mean getting them up by Christmas."

Mitchell has also revealed that he is currently pumping in £5,000-£6,000 a week into the club to keep it going, which is a situation he admits cannot go on.

He said: "The club is only playing football today because of me and I am not prepared to finan- cially support it indefinitely.

"So if people want it to remain how it is they need to really get together and help in whatever way they can.

"The club has some fantastic support with people who do a lot of hard work for free but at the moment the gates we are getting simply do not match the level of football that is expected to come out of the stadium."

Mitchell would like to see more community-led events at the stadium, particularly ones involving youngsters, but he is not getting the feedback from the town he is after.

He said: "There is so much at the club that can happen if Dorchester wanted it but there seems to be no energy there. It is all laid back. Even the old board did not have any energy and that is why it gave up because they could not keep up with me.

"I love the club but for it to continue at its current level it needs the community to embrace it."

Mitchell has made massive investment in the team this season, drafting in quality players such as Nick Crittenden, Kevin Hill and Gareth Stewart.

He said: "Those players are not going to stay with the crowds we are getting at the moment because we are not going to be able to support them.

"We have some outstanding lads of a very good standard and I know our position in the league is not fantastic at the moment but we have still only lost twice in seven games and after last season that is a definite improvement.

"We are also still a relatively young squad and in two years' time with the side we have got we could win that league but only if the crowds start coming in to sustain it."

The Magpies will hold a Fans' Forum in the Jewson Stadium Lounge Bar tonight (6.30pm for 7pm).

I think you will find it was your mate Mr Brooks who halved the gate attendances last season, maybe you should address that problem if you want to encourage the crowds back.

D.T.F.C. has NEVER had decent attendances and NEVER will and to think that they will be up by xmas he must be dreaming ! he may as well pack up and clear off now and use the ground as another market place which dorchester is better at .

Phil S, Dorch says...

For what its rth Mitchell you just as well save your 5-6 grand per week up to Christmas as nobody is going to invest and crowds anit going to rise.

Everyone can see Brooks is the problem but you wont or dont want to do what is right and sack him.

All the promises you have mad Dorchester of football league football in 5 years are just pie in the sky. Now you are talking about a Southern League Club or worse. You have done Dorchester a great diservice GET OUT and GET OUT NOW ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

Mr man not to be trusted mitchell the solution to your cry for more support to DTFC SACK THAT IMPOSTER OF A MANAGER thats if you want to stay on as chairman lets see where your heart is regarding this club il wager you wont sack him though why not i ask if you say you have this club at heart why stand by and watch it in decline you must know what the majority think of brooks you must know of his past managerial exploits which wouldnt make good reading applying for the managers job at the local pubs sunday side let alone DTFC does this club deserve a manager like this or have you other motives to see us down its as bigger mystery as the marie celeste dont think the club will fold if you go on the contary i say go take him with you and HAPPY DAYS DTFC

Can you please explain to a true DTFC fan what this manager has done to deserve the sack as I don't see it at all.

He has asembled a decent squad this season on a low mid table budget and have been cruelly robbed of key players through injury.

Our league position is probably about right to our budget. Had we not had those injuries to key players we would surely be much higher now and thus overachieving ?

Where from that can you determin that the fella derserves sacking ?

Fred, Dorchester says...
12:08pm Fri 5 Sep 08

Perhaps he makes a good scout and/or trainer, but that doesn't mean he makes a good manager.

It's not just about finding the players or picking the team, a good manager has to inspire and motivate them.

Alex, Dorchester says...
12:26pm Fri 5 Sep 08

Still don't see any cause or genuine good reason for the sack (yet) though.

Fred, Dorchester says...
3:16pm Fri 5 Sep 08

I think its fair to say he vastly under achieved last season dispite replacing most of the team, this is the opinion of most Dorchester supporters at least, and he has under achieved this season apart from the first game, and this despite greatly strengthing the squad during the summer.

I don't think we should harp on about his playing budget either because many other teams manage to cope on a tight budget, and as for the injuries its only 2 regular first teamers that we are missing.

Alex, Dorchester says...
3:43pm Fri 5 Sep 08

The playing budget is massively important. You always get a few exceptions to the rule but in general the teams with the largest budgets finish near the top and the teams with the smallest budgets finish well yes i think you get the picture.

This season is a tough call as he has been robbed so cruely of several of his top players. Having said that we are probably around where our wage budget dictates us to be, even with the injuries.

If you think we have underachieved this season, where do you think we should be in the table and why do you think we should be in that position ?

Slade the Leveller, Dorchester says...
8:14pm Fri 5 Sep 08

Can't see how anyone cd take issue with Brookesie's signings, he's done alright and then been hit by a triple whammy robbing him of a first choice centre half, right back and attacking midfielder. Eddie should give Shaun the time to get it right having invested in the players to allow us to compete at this level - he seemed to have learned the lesson of last season. Prouncements like this do nothing but sap the morale of everyone at the club - players, officials and fans alike.

Phil S, Dorch says...
8:31pm Fri 5 Sep 08

Sorry Slade but anyone who picks Tom Useless over Wattsie has NO CREDABILITY as a manager. Picking USELESS cos he is the bosses son and has no talent whatsoever is tantamount to managerial suicide cos us fans are not going to get off his back are they?

It would seem that certain supporters are unhappy about the stick that Useless Mitchell has been receiving

ONE QUESTION

If Michell wasnt the Chairman's Son would he make the bench let alone be in the team?

Think we know the answer dont we a resounding NO

11:23pm today Sun 7 Sep 08

Sorry phil s i dont understand why you have reprinted my comment ? I will add to your comment though regarding the chairmans son yes we all know hes not up to this level but its a circle if mitchell wasnt the chairman then brooks would have stood no chance of being the manager so Tom wouldnt even be considered would he not at this club anyway why doesnt mitchell become chairman of poole borough where brooks was an unsuccessful manager then tom can play brooks can be manager again and mitchell can develop the ground at turlin moor sorted

Phil S

One question - if Tom was not Eddie's son would this even be a subject being discussed on here? Probably not.

Tom played instead of Clay because that is the position he is more suited to. He might not be good enough yet but he certainly earnt some respect from people on Saturday. Perhaps our problems lay more with lazy strikers or lapse defending? The last two games he has played we have taken 4 points from (should have been 6). Clay will play once he is back but he should be supported until that time.
