RESIDENTS are invited to attend a commemorative United Nations Day ceremony.
Margaret Leicester, mayor of Weymouth and Portland, will lead the event today at 10.30am in Lady Diana Gardens, Radipole Park Drive.
She will be joined by representatives of local businesses, friends of the parks and gardens and borough councillors.
It will include the raising of the UN flag followed by a recognition speech by the Mayor and Richard Burgess, president of the Weymouth and Portland Lions Club.
The anniversary of the entry into force of the United Nations Charter on October 24, 1945, has been celebrated as United Nations Day since 1948.
Matt Ryan, head of tourism and events at the borough council, said: “We are very proud to have the opportunity on behalf of the borough to recognise United Nations Day and acknowledge the outstanding work carried out by the UN.”
