A GREEN-FINGERED woman who lost her husband to cancer has raised over £800 for charities close to her heart.
Lynda Pain raised £425 for both the Weldmar Hospice-care Trust and Pancreatic Cancer UK by opening up the garden of her Lower Bockhampton home to the public.
Lynda’s husband David spent seven weeks at the Joseph Weld Hospice in Dorchester last year and she wanted to do something to repay the hospice for the level of care they provided.
She said: “The care that David received at the hospice was excellent and so was the invaluable support which they gave us both.
“This is my way of saying thank you.
“I would also like to thank everyone who helped at the open gardens – I could not have done it without the support of my friends.”
Lynda has also set up her own local support group along with other women personally affected by pancreatic cancer.
The trailblazing group known as Pan Pals is one of the first of its kind and is affiliated to Pancreatic Cancer UK, which hopes to use it as a model to develop a network of similar groups around the county.
