WILDLIFE campaigners are going batty this Halloween.

The RSPB in Weymouth are getting into the swing of things by holding an event all about bats. ‘Let’s Get Batty’ is a free event at the Wild Weymouth Discovery Centre near Radipole Lake on Saturday.

The charity is inviting families to come along and learn about these amazing creatures. The event is from 10am to 1pm.

There will be a bat trail around the reserve and lots of ‘bat themed’ activities for little and big kids. The highlight of the day is the chance to get face to face with some real live bats. The event is supported by East Dorset Bat Rescue, which will be bringing along some rescued wild bats soon to be released back into the countryside.

Tom Clarke, from the Wild about Weymouth and Portland project, said: “Bats are simply breathtaking creatures.

“This event is a great opportunity to get up close and personal with a real wild bat. We’d love to see lots of visitors on the day so that we share a better understanding of what it means to be a bat.”
