RESIDENTS, businesses and councillors joined together to celebrate United Nations Day in Weymouth.
The borough’s mayor, Margaret Leicester, led a ceremony at Princess Diana Gardens in Radipole Park Drive.
It marked the anniversary of the entry in to force of the United Nations Charter on October 24, 1945.
Head of Weymouth and Portland tourism Matt Ryan said: “We are very proud to have the opportunity on behalf of the borough to recognise United Nations Day and acknowledge the outstanding work carried out by the UN.
“The United Nations work reaches every corner of the globe. Although best known for peace keeping, peace building, conflict prevention and humanitarian assistance, there are many other ways that the United Nations affect our lives and make the world a better place.”
The celebration included the raising of the United Nations flag and a recognition speech by Coun Leicester and Richard Burgess, president of the Weymouth and Portland Lions Club.
