WHEN Terry Dean retired he bought a dog and a camera and now they both go with him wherever he goes.

The grandfather from Stratton is delighted that his image of the Old Coastguard Lookout near Swyre has been selected to feature in the new publication Dorset: A Photographic Journey in an Olympic Year.

The annual hard-backed book, produced by the Dorset Echo, is bigger and better than ever this year with a special section of shots from this summer’s Olympic and Paralympic sailing events.

Mr Dean, 66, said: “Photography’s a hobby of mine.

“About two years ago when I retired from Westlands helicopter factory, where I looked after the delivery of helicopters, I bought myself a camera and a golden retriever called Monty.

“And now I often go out on long walks with my camera.”

Mr Dean said while Monty starred in a lot of his snaps, he enjoyed taking landscape images.

His chosen shot for the glossy book was taken after sunset in late January this year, overlooking the coast near Swyre.

Mr Dean said: “That was good, I spend a lot of time waiting for that to happen.

“I was waiting for it to line up and I went there deliberately to get that shot.”

Dorset: A Photographic Journey in an Olympic Year, which costs £14.95, comes hot on the heels of another special souvenir publication produced by the Echo to commemorate 2012.

More than 1,000 copies of When the World came to Weymouth, priced at £3.95, have already been sold. Both books are available from the Dorset Echo offices on the Granby Industrial Estate, Weymouth and in Antelope Walk, Dorchester and the Bridport News office in East Street.
