LONG-SERVING Poppy Appeal volunteers were recognised as Dorchester collectors set their sights on another record breaking year.

The county town’s appeal was launched at the Keep Military Museum.

Dorchester Poppy Appeal organiser Graham Rhys-Jones said that last year the county town and surrounding areas managed to raise a record-breaking £26,600 to support the work of the Royal British Legion and he was confident the appeal would be well supported again in 2012.

Mayor of Dorchester Andy Canning presented certificates to Ann Bendall, who has collected for the appeal for 40 years, and Karyn Palmer, who has volunteered for 20 years.

Others to receive awards were Reg Hawker, Roy Fry, Maurice Walker, Anthony Gannon and Keith Simmons while Colin Parr from the Keep Military Museum was also given a special certificate in recognition of his support.
