A MAN is appealing for help after the £400 bike he used to get to work was stolen overnight in Weymouth.

The bike, an orange and black Harro mountain bike, was locked to a set of railings in Gloucester Mews car park on October 24 and was taken overnight.

Nick Lawes, whose son Thomas, aged 25, owned the bike, said: “Tom left it locked up overnight and when he came back the next morning it was gone.

He works at Condor Ferries and cycles from Upwey every day and it’s his only form of transport. It’s so frustrating that someone has nicked it. Tom’s trying to keep fit and make a low impact on the environment.”

He added: “Tom’s trying to raise money to go on a trip to India and it’s the last straw really because now he’s going to have to fork out for a new bike.”

Mr Lawes said the bike, which was not insured, cost £400 when it was bought in 1999.
