A ROYAL Navy sailor from Weymouth says he is honoured to be part of the Remembrance Day service attended by the Queen.
Aircraft Engineering Technician Simon Holdsworth, 25, is training to be a part of the Royal Navy contingent at the Cenotaph remembrance service in London on Sunday.
The former All Saints School pupil is currently serving with 815 Naval Air Squadron at RNAS Yeovilton.
Since joining the service in 2006, Simon has served on HMS Gloucester and undertaken contingent training under the Royal Navy’s State Ceremonial Training Team at HMS Collingwood, Fareham.
He said: “It’s an honour to have the chance to pay my respects to all the past and present members of the armed forces in the presence of Her Majesty The Queen.”
At last year’s ceremony, the Queen laid a wreath and more than 7,000 ex-servicemen and women marched past the Cenotaph, followed by civilians including 60 war widows.
The National Service of Remembrance is organised by the Department of Culture, Media and Sport and honours those who lost their lives in the First and Second World Wars and other more recent conflicts.
Ceremonies will be taking place across Dorset on Remembrance Sunday, which this year falls on Armistice Day, November 11.
