WILLAND ROVERS 4 BRIDPORT 0

RYAN Draper proved unbeatable as Willand Rovers inflicted a heavy defeat on to Bridport at Silver Street.

The Bees matched the hosts for much of the afternoon but found the ex-Weymouth and Tiverton Town keeper in top form as their winless run in the league was stretched to five games.

Bridport boss Trevor Senior, whose side now lie third-bottom in the Toolstation Western Premier Division, said: “The pitch was really heavy but we started well with Michael Hailu, in his first start, forcing Ryan Draper into a good early save.

“Everything seemed to be going fine but then Ryan Hayter lost his footing, which allowed one of their lads to get past him and set up someone for an easy finish to make it 1-0.

“Every time we got the ball behind them we caused them problems but they then got another one 10 minutes before half-time when one of their lads hit a half-volley from the edge of the box that gave Sam Filkins no chance.

“Despite that we kept going and just before the break, Chris Luke got in behind them and sent over a cross, which Ryan Dovell met with a diving header, but somehow Draper kept the ball out again with an unbelievable save.

“Goals change games and had that gone in, it would have given us the lift we needed. We still felt we could get something out of the game though, but they then made it 3-0 in the second half when the ball looped over Sam from close to the by-line.

“Dean Ritchie was then denied by another really good save before they grabbed their fourth with a shot from the edge of the box that flew into the top corner.”

The Bees have now lost five out of their last six in all competitions but Senior is confident they can turn their fortunes around.

He added: “It was a disappointing defeat but there were some positives we could take out of it. Max and Sam Buckler both played well as did Michael and Russell Legg, and like everyone said afterwards it was never a 4-0 game.

“Although we are looking up from a lowly position, the league is still tight and we just need that one win to get some confidence going again. Hopefully it will come sooner rather than later.”
