STAFF from a Weymouth office have been pulling out all the stops to provide some Christmas cheer for children at Dorset County Hospital.

Land Registry staff have raised £600 to buy items on the Kingfisher Ward’s Christmas wish-list.

Young patients staying at the Dorchester hospital will now be able to enjoy more than 150 DVDs while the donation also included eight portable DVD players as well as an iPad complete with frame and stand.

Land Registry Weymouth Office charity committee chairman Simon Hutton said: “We were made aware of the children’s wish-list in November so we chose to raise money for our very own ‘children in need’ locally.

“We did this is in a number of ways which included a donation of £300 from a former member of staff, circulation of penny pots and various other initiatives and donations from our annual Christmas Fayre.

“We hope these gifts go some way to improving the time any child has to spend in the ward, particularly over the festive season.”

Staff at the ward were thrilled to receive the bumper donation.

Play specialist Julie Goodall said: “We’re so grateful for this. We really needed to refresh our DVDs for the children, especially for those who come in regularly.

“So to have so many donated, and the players as well, is wonderful.

“We wanted an iPad so children can be distracted while having blood taken so we’re delighted – we can’t thank the Land Registry staff enough.”
