AN adult and child were rescued from a car which became stuck in flood water on the West Stafford bypass.

Firefighters were called to the scene at 5.26pm yesterday.

A technical rescue crew from Weymouth and two fire engines from Dorchester were called out.

Firefighters used wading gear to lead the adult and child to safety.

A spokesman said the service was called out to several similar incidents across the county last night where motorists have ignored road closure signs and entered flood water.

She said: "These are in place for your own safety - please find an alternative route."
