A DRUG dealer found to have more than £700 worth of cannabis in his flat has been given a community order.

Jonathan Stretton, 21, was arrested after police executed a search warrant at his home in Holzwickede Court in Littlemoor, Weymouth, on July 5.

At a sentence hearing at Dorchester Crown Court, prosecutor Sadie Rizzo said officers found various amounts of cannabis totalling 138.51grams.

She said police estimated the street value of the Class B drugs to be worth between £710 and £880.

Miss Rizzo said officers also discovered messages on Stretton’s mobile phone that appeared to be ‘consistent with cannabis supply’ and various drug paraphernalia.

John Dyer, mitigating, said his client, who had admitted possessing cannabis with intent to supply, had been out of work for several years and was a heavy cannabis user.

He said this had ‘de-motivated’ him and he had turned to dealing, partly to fund his own habit.

Mr Dyer said: “He was only selling to those who were already partaking of the drug, he did not encourage others who were not already taking the drug.”

Judge Roger Jarvis sentenced Stretton to a 12-month community order with a supervision requirement and a drug rehabilitation requirement for six months. He also ordered that Stretton carried out 200 hours of unpaid work.
