Dorset man scoops £1million in EuroMillions raffle

A SWANAGE man is celebrating after he scooped £1million in the EuroMillions raffle on Christmas Day.

It came just hours after Aaron Smith, 40, and his brother Will Smith jokingly posed as ‘lottery winners’ during their Christmas day meal.

Aaron said: “We got dressed up for Christmas dinner as it was a special festive occasion and, because we also had champagne and I had my EuroMillions tickets with me, we had a bit of fun by pretending to be big winners.

“Back home that night it was amazing to see my numbers come up.”

He added: “I still can’t believe it’s happened and I was one of the 25 millionaires created on Christmas Day.”

Aaron, who works at the Bournemouth office of a financial services company, said he plans to invest in new camera equipment.

He plans to splash out on a holiday for his extended family and buy a more modern car for his partner Becky Travers, 31, who this month starts a new job working with young people.

He added: “It’s been a difficult couple of years for our family in one way or another so it’s nice to start 2013 on a high note.

“Me and Becky both screamed and had a little dance when we realised we’d won. And, of course, I had to phone by brother and mum to tell them.

“I only bought the EuroMillions ticket as a spur-of-the-moment thing as I was in Swanage on a last-minute visit to the shops on Christmas Eve.

“Perhaps the message is that it’s never too late to do your Christmas shopping.”
