A LORRY transporting a crane caused traffic disruption in Weymouth town centre.

Police attended King Street after a HGV vehicle broke down on the corner of the road at 9.30am on Monday.

Motorists faced traffic congestion for more than two hours before recovery arrived.

A spokesman for Dorset Police said: “A lorry broke down on its way to the ferry terminal at the back of Weymouth Pavilion.

“We came down to help the traffic flow on the junction where motorists can travel in three directions.”

Lorry driver Rob Howell said: “I broke down right on the junction which was annoying because I was so close to my destination.

“It caused traffic chaos at first because it is such a dangerous point in the road.”

John Davies, of the Sea Chef Fish and Chips, said: “It is a very dangerous place to break down.

“The traffic did build up the street but eased off when the police arrived to help. Luckily, no other problems were caused.”

Wonder if they then made it go all the way around the gyratory? If it was going to the Ferry Terminal the truck shouldn't really have been in King St with the banned right turn onto the Esplanade in the first place!

I expect it was under police escort, and they would have driven against the flow at the lights.
Even so its a pretty tight turn at that point.
Just think what fun the driver would have had if he went down commercial road and tried to get to the seafront up past Wilko's....

The vehicle had every right to be in King Street, nowhere in the article did it say he was attempting to turn right, an educated guess would indicate he would be turning left and going around St Johns church and back along the seafront.
