BRANCHING OUT: Holly Gardner will be taking part in a charity project in Ghana in April 2013
A WEYMOUTH mum is broadening her horizons by helping to rebuild a school in Ghana.
Holly Gardner will fly to Africa in April to help construct a rural secondary school.
The 22-year-old, mum to six-year-old Kayden, is currently studying for a BA in social work at Bournemouth University.
The tasks she will be undertaking to build the school include painting, plastering, brick work, wood work, tree planting and other construction tasks including building a playground.
Holly, who is temporarily living in Bournemouth while studying, needs to raise £1,500 by February 1 for the materials the group needs to rebuild the school.
She said: “I never thought I’d get an opportunity like this or have the capability or determination to succeed in life.
“Now that I have begun my journey to make a better life for me and my son I want to squeeze all the opportunity I can out of the three years I am at university.
“I believe this experience will not only benefit the people of Ghana but will also open my eyes to the poverty and struggle these Ghanians face every day.”
