Concerns over a traffic-free Weymouth Esplanade next summer
1:43pm Tuesday 8th January 2013 in News
CONCERN has been expressed about closing Weymouth seafront during next summer.
It came at a meeting of Weymouth and Portland Borough Council’s management committee today.
Making part of the Esplanade a traffic-free zone from mid-July to the end of August is among the ideas being considered to build on the Olympic ‘legacy.’ The council said it received some positive feedback about the seafront being closed during the Games.
Nothing has been decided about next summer yet and consultation with the public will take place.
There was also a debate at the meeting about whether to give a grant to the Sail for Gold event at the sailing academy. That issue has had to be deferred until the next meeting.
