Cycleway project in Weymouth likely to cause disruption to commuters
12:00pm Wednesday 9th January 2013 in News
WORK has started on a cycleway project in Weymouth that is likely to cause disruption to commuters this month.
Dorset County Council is building the shared use Marsh Route footpath and cycleway linking Newstead Road with Chickerell Link Road.
Construction work around Lanehouse, Fiveways and at the entrance to the Granby Industrial Estate is likely to cause major hold-ups when several traffic management measures are put in place for three weeks.
Although work started this week, it will not be until Monday, January 14 when Cumberland Drive will be closed between its junction with Chickerell Road and access to the Land Registry.
From the same day, temporary lights will be put up at Fiveways and at the junction of Lanehouse Rocks Road and Chickerell Road.
Businesses will be open as usual and drivers wanting to access the Granby Industrial Estate will need to use Chickerell Link Road.
Dorset Highways project manager Emma Baker said: “We know the temporary signals will cause delays so we will be manually controlling these at peak times Monday to Friday to try and help the flow of traffic.
“Drivers from the Portland direction, and through traffic, may find it quicker to use Wyke Road and Rodwell Road.”
