FUNDRAISERS will come together in Dorchester to talk about how they can help beat cancer.

An informal meeting is being held in the county town on Saturday to look at setting up a new group to raise £10,000 over the next year.

Dorset volunteer manager for Cancer Research UK Ros Fry is urging people to attend the meeting, which runs from 10am to 1pm, at Bryter Latte coffee shop in South Street.

All those who are interested in contributing to the effort can pop along to find out more and enjoy a free coffee at the same time.

Cancer Research UK has a number of successful groups around the county but the charity does not have one in Dorchester and Ros wants to see the local community get behind the new initiative.

She said: “We have successful fundraising groups in Bridport, Marnhull, Wool, Lyme Regis and other areas in Dorset, but not at the moment in Dorchester.

“I am looking to set up a fundraising group for Cancer Research UK in Dorchester, and wonder whether this is something people will be interested in getting involved with.

“The area has a lot of fundraising activity already and I believe there’s even more potential, so it would be fantastic to bring a group together to make a difference within the community.”

Ros said people can show their support for the charity in a whole range of ways and it will very much be dictated by what members want to do.

She said: “Example of activities that other groups organise include cash collections, tennis tournaments, golf days, dog walks, fun runs, discos, raffles, auctions, pub quizzes, winter balls, tea parties and sales at local events.

“But the exciting thing about starting a new group is that you get to decide how you fundraise based on what interests you.”

Anyone interested in getting involved in the group or finding out more about the group can contact Ros by calling 01308 423805 or emailing ros.fry@cancer.org.uk
