HEARTFELT tributes have been paid to the tragic victim of a Weymouth caravan fire.

Police are investigating the death of the woman who died in the fire, named locally as mother-of-one Vikki Syme, 27.

Former Budmouth College student Vikki has been described as a ‘wonderful, happy go lucky woman’ who had a bright future.

Emergency services were alerted to the caravan blaze at Martleaves Farm, Ryemead Lane, Wyke Regis, on Monday night.

Firefighters from Weymouth and Portland tackled the blaze which was under control by 10.45pm.

It is understood that former barmaid Vikki had been visiting a friend who lived in the caravan, but had been alone when the fire broke out. An investigation into the cause is underway.

Friends have spoken of their shock that such a popular young woman has lost her life. Vikki’s death comes just a month after the death of her father.

Paul Lester, who works at the Chapelhay Tavern, said Vikki was a regular customer who was friends with everyone.

“This is such an awful tragedy, all of our regulars are mourning the loss of Vikki.

“She was a wonderful, happy go lucky young woman who loved her five-year-old daughter.

“She had her whole life ahead of her, it is so very sad.”

Mark Bowditch, 47, said he was ‘deeply saddened’ by the loss of his dear friend.

“All I can say is Vikki will be missed by all her friends at the Chapelhay Tavern.

“She was such a happy go lucky person, always trying new things like jam making for her friends at the pub.

“It’s a bit hard to get my head around that she’s gone. We are all deeply saddened by the news.”

Denise Alanna Wyatt said she knew Vikki from when she worked at The Boot Inn, Weymouth.

She added: “Vikki was a very vibrant and bubbly girl.

“Many times I would get a pat on the shoulder in the street and turn to be greeted by her smile and a huge hug.

“Vikki is going to be missed by a lot of people as she touched so many.”

Vikki’s devastated mother Diane Narraway paid tribute to her ‘happy little girl’ on Facebook.

She said: “It is with a broken heart that I sadly tell the world that my eldest daughter Vikki Syme died on Monday night as the result of a tragic accident.

“There is nothing that can be said which will make any of this feel any better, no words can ever bring back my happy little girl.

“I do appreciate that people care and I am grateful for my family and friends at this time.”

A spokesman for Dorset Police said: “A body of a woman believed to be in her twenties has been recovered from the scene.

“A formal identification by the coroner has yet to take place.“ “Officers are continuing to investigate and the incident is still being treated as unexplained.”
