Dorset bus workers are preparing for strike action

BUS workers in Dorset are preparing for possible strike action.

Transport union RMT says it will be balloting 500 members across Wilts & Dorset buses for industrial action in response to proposed working conditions.

Wilts & Dorset, part of the Go-Ahead Group, runs buses between Weymouth, Dorchester, Blandford and Salisbury as well as in Purbeck and east Dorset.

The union, which will begin balloting for action from January 23, says it is acting in response to proposed changes which it claims will affect shifts, meal breaks and working hours.

RMT General Secretary Bob Crow said: “RMT will not sit back while Wilts and Dorset launches an all-out attack on terms and conditions while bullying staff with a threat to pull the service if they don’t bend the knee. The union remains available for talks to resolve this dispute.”

No-one from Wilts & Dorset was available for comment.

I can see it now; desperate people waiting in the rain at a stop, all the information wrong and still the hours pass without a sign of any bus at all.

Then next week the strike starts.
