SNOW CHAOS: IT glitch crashes Dorset for You website

AN IT glitch was responsible for crashing a county council website as parents and students tried to see which schools were closed.

As parents and students tried to find out if their school was closed yesterday morning the Dorset for You website crashed.

A council spokesman said the problem was due to a ‘faulty network card’, and not the volume of people trying to get on to the page.

He said: “It was the worst possible timing that part of the website went down.”

He added that the IT department had been working on the situation yesterday morning and in the meantime temporary measures were put in place to inform people of school closures.

He added: “We will have a look at that for future situations and make sure it doesn’t happen again.”

Just NOT good enough.

When the site was most needed it was not available.

Incompetence comes to my thoughts - maybe the problem will be solved - but because the IT system was not stress tested I suspect it needed this failure to complete part of the test.
We (taxpayers) pay thousands in so called upgrades to DCC IT - well in this case it was not money well spent.
It is like the people of Dorset clubbing together and buying a Lifeboat which sinks on launch at it's first 'call out'

I repeat NOT GOOD ENOUGH DCC

An important website like this should have a system to fall back onto a second server if the main one fails.

Yes not good enough.

With all the cuts going on around the country the IT system for DCC should be at the top of the list of perfection.

My PC always works at home, never will it fail.

If it ever did I would sue the company I purchased it from. No way can I have my important life interrupted.

On Monday the Council should putting gritting on hold on spend any money it has on the worlds best IT system.

I repeat NOT GOOD ENOUGH DCC!
