HMV heater up for auction in Dorchester
AS TIME appears to be running out on HMV’s high street stores a piece of the company’s history is going under the hammer in Dorchester.
Duke’s auctioneers in the county town are offering up an art deco electric fan heater manufactured by the firm, which has now gone into administration, back in 1938.
The heater was designed by Christian Barman and is expected to fetch between £30 and £60 when it goes on sale at Duke’s Grove Auctions on January 29.
It is enamelled yellow with reflective chrome and is a reminder of a different era for His Masters Voice.
Duke’s valuer Amy Brenan said: “The sumptuous, modern curvilinear design reflects the newly discovered novelty of the domestic heater and HMV’s revised role as supplier of stylish domestic homewares.
“The original label is still present on the back of the heater and the good condition indicates it may still have life in it yet.”
