12:00pm Wednesday 23rd January 2013 in News
A MAN who is believed to have used forged banknotes in a number of town centre shops has been arrested in Dorchester.
Inspector Steve Marsh of Dorchester Police, said the man, who was believed to have been working with others, bought goods from Waitrose on Monday with a forged £20 Scottish banknote.
Staff at the store alerted local officers and they put out an alert on the Shopwatch radio system, with a description of the man from CCTV footage circulated.
Insp Marsh said: “An off duty special constable saw the suspect going into Ladbrokes and he was detained and we recovered £300 of forged notes that he tried to hide.
“We also recovered items belonging to at least five different shops in Dorchester.”
Insp Marsh said the man, who was from out of the area, had been taken into custody and was helping police with their enquiries.
