‘Suicidal’ man talked down on Portland

EMERGENCY services were called out after a man threatened to throw himself into the water at Portland Marina.

Police officers, lifeboat crew and coastguard rescue officers were on the scene after receiving a report of a man in his forties threatening to jump from one of the pontoons. A Dorset Police spokesman said: “At 10.37pm on Wednesday, Dorset Police had a report expressing concern for the welfare for a man in his forties at the Portland Marina along Portland Beach Road on Portland.

“Officers attended and the man was located safe and well.”

Weymouth lifeboat and Portland Coastguard were called out by police officers to assist with the incident.

A spokesman for the coastguard said the ‘suicidal’ man had threatened to throw himself from a pontoon but was eventually taken to safety by police officers.
