Top cop Alan Jenkins welcomed on board

THE appointment of former Bridport police inspector Alan Jenkins as the new Community Justice Panel co-ordinator was welcomed by town councillors.

Town clerk Bob Gillis told councillors at the environmental and social wellbeing committee he was working hard to get cases to the panel to ensure a meaningful review of the project.

The trial is due to end in July but Mr Gillis said Magna had already pledged £2,500 to keep it going and it was probable that West Dorset District Council would also continue to support it.

He also said Bournemouth University is ready to review the pilot. Talks on its performance will be held with MP Oliver Letwin on April 5.

Coun Ros Kayes said the police are one of the services that did not have an audit for the success of preventative measures like justice panels.

She said: “One of the problems with restorative justice is that it is not measurable financially.”
