MELCOMBE Day Hospital is set to benefit from a £500 donation thanks to a selfless nurse.
Lesley Benham, team leader at the hospital, donated her time and expertise to deliver the keynote speech at a recent dementia workshop.
More than 85 people attended the event, hosted by Everycare – a provider of professional nursing and domiciliary care across the county.
To thank Ms Benham, Everycare decided to donate £500 to be shared among Melcombe Day Hospital, the Weymouth and Portland Hospital League of Friends and the London-based Queen’s Nursing Institute, where Lesley is a Fellow.
Everycare managing director Stuart Truelove said: “As a care and nursing services provider, we care for many people with dementia and it has also affected my own family.
“I attended the seminar and, like many other delegates, I found Lesley’s words truly inspirational.
“We hope to work with Lesley and her colleagues at Dorset HealthCare in the future and make this an annual event, improving people’s knowledge and skills in the field.”
The dedicated nurse often spends her annual leave donating her professional skills to help others better understand dementia.
The workshop, named ‘Understand-ing Dementia’, took place at the Dorchester Corn Exchange at the end of last year.
