Sandworld in Weymouth to re-open with alien theme

Weymouth sculpture park goes sci-fi crazy Weymouth sculpture park goes sci-fi crazy

Spaceships and Aliens will be landing in Weymouth next month as ten of the world’s best sand sculptors arrive at Sandworld to create some amazing new sculptures on a Science Fiction theme.

Artistic Director and creator of Sandworld , Mark Anderson - who is known locally as the Sandman said: “As far as we know, there has never been a sci-fi themed sand sculpture event anywhere in the world before, so the sculptors are pretty excited to make something special for us here in Weymouth”.

Sculptures will feature scenes from favourites such as Star Trek and Star Wars, and there will be a tribute sculpture to mark the 50th Anniversary of the BBC TV series Dr Who.

Sandworld co-founder David Hicks added: “It has been really quite hard choosing what to include, so we have been asking on Facebook for ideas and chosen the most popular; including some old classics and something for children”.

The artists will be arriving from March 7 and will immediately commence work on the sculptures created from just sand and water.

Visitors will be able to get close to the exhibits and try their hand at their own creations from March 29 when Sandworld reopens to the public with a special launch event
