Weymouth and Portland taxi fares to rise by 20p a journey

COUNCILLORS have unanimously agreed to a 20 pence rise per taxi journey.

Weymouth and Portland Borough Council’s licensing committee met yesterday at the North Quay offices to discuss the issue.

The committee heard representations from the chairman of the Weymouth and Portland hackney carriage association Ray Maslen who answered queries and questions from committee members.

Mr Maslen said that the proposed raise of 20 pence was per journey.

Councillor Hazel Bruce said that ‘you couldn’t buy an ice lolly’ for 20 pence.

Andy Blackwood said: “20 pence isn’t a lot.”
