Weymouth residents' phone lines are reconnected by BT after 10 days
1:00pm Saturday 9th February 2013 in News
WEYMOUTH residents whose phone lines were out of order for 10 days have been reconnected by BT.
The lines were repaired in the Wyke Road area on Thursday.
Initially 120 households were affected with most connections dealt with straight away, but 40 households spent days without phone lines – sparking concern for elderly residents who didn’t have mobile phones.
Weymouth and Portland borough councillor Colin Huckle, who lives in Wyke Road, said: “They were working overnight to get it back and my neighbour has been connected again.”
Wyke Road resident Sue Pritchard had no a line for ten days. She said: “It was a long time to be without a phone. My husband works from home and it was a real problem for him.
“We had a huge mobile phone bill. What really annoyed us was the lack of communication, it was just ridiculous that we couldn’t get hold of anyone.”
A BT spokesman confirmed that the work on the cable was complete.
