Dorset's roads hit by flooding

DRIVERS on Dorset's roads have been faced with road closures due to flooding.

Heavy and persistent rain across the weekend has hit already wet ground and caused flooding across the county and standing water on some roads.

Roads are reported as experiencing flooding in Nottington and between Bere Regis and Wool on the C6.

The A35 has been hit badly by flooding and is closed in both directions between the Bakers Arms Roundabout in Lytchett Minster and Woodbury Cross in Bere Regis.

The junction at Monkey's Jump towards the A37 is just passable but the A35 between Monkey's Jump and the Mitsubishi roundabout at Bridport is closed due to flooding.

The West Stafford bypass is also closed.

The Environment Agency put out flood warnings for the River Wey this morning and for the River Char at Charmouth this afternoon.

Flood alerts are in place for West Dorset rivers and streams and the Upper Frome and its tributaries between Toller Whelme and Dorchester.

Dorset Police have issued advice to motorists using the roads and urged drivers to 'be sensible.'

A spokesman for the police said: “Do not drive into standing water and do not drive round road closed signs.”

The weather forecast for tomorrow is overcast and cloudy, becoming colder.
