Sheep and motorists saved from flood water near Bridport
5:53pm Sunday 10th February 2013 in News
A RESCUE was launched to try and saved 16 sheep caught in flood water.
Firefighters were called this afternoon to the sheep trapped in fast-flowing flood water near the River Char at Whitchurch Canonicorum.
Animal rescue crews went to the scene with a Charmouth fire crew and wading teams from Bridport.
The Charmouth crew made the scene safe and when the technical rescue teams from Weymouth and Poole arrived they set up special rescue boats.
These were used to herd most of the sheep to safety.
Due to the flood water a Lyme Regis fire crew was also called to approach the scene from a ‘different angle.’
Ten sheep herded to safetyby the boats and two lambs were saved by the Lyme Regis crew, however, unfortunately four lambs died in the flood water.
Firefighters also rescued three people from a car stuck in floodwater at Burton Bradstock at 3.35pm today.
Crews from Bridport, Charmouth, Beaminster and Poole attended the scene near the Larkfield Caravan Park.
A fire service spokesman said that they led three people to safety from the vehicle.
