Special gig set to aid Powerstock school

DOING OUR BIT: Powerstock pupils with parents at the bric-a-brac stall to raise money to buy essential items for the fire-damaged school
A FEELGOOD gig is being staged in West Dorset in a final push to raise funds for a village’s fire-hit school.
Powerstock Parent and Staff Association (PSA) is hosting the event with Flaky Jake at Powerstock Hut on Saturday, March 2.
London musicians will play with local faces in a Caribbean evening of Cajun soul, tropical Cuban and gumbo grooves.
It is part of the PSA’s push for its Firefund after a fire swept through the village school in October 2011.
The association has been fundraising tirelessly since the school was destroyed by the fire.
Pencils and new reading books were among the items which had to be hastily bought to ensure pupils’ education was not affected.
PSA chairman Anna Best is proud of what has been achieved.
She said: “We’ve been overwhel-med by the generosity of local people, as well as resources donated by local schools which has meant our pupils have been able to carry on with minimum disruption.
“Many pupils have been based in the village hall since the fire, and both the staff and the children have worked hard to make the most of a difficult situation.
“We hope that through the fund we’ll be able to provide the exciting new building with resources to match”.
All money from the night will be going directly towards Powerstock FireFund.
Doors open at 7.30pm and there will be a bar serving real ale and local cider. Tickets are £7 in advance from Bridport Music or £8 on the door.

POWERSTOCK School was granted planning permission in December 2012 to rebuild and extend the existing listed building after the fire, bringing the three classes back under one roof, also removing the need for a mobile classroom which has been in the grounds for many years.
