Police warn of increased thefts in Purbeck
3:20pm Friday 15th February 2013 in News
POLICE are warning of a rise in overnight vehicle crime in Purbeck beauty spots.
Officers are urging motorists to take crime prevention steps.
There has been a recent increase, especially in the Upton and the Northmoor area of Wareham.
Police said that the majority of the crimes are being committed overnight.
Theft from vehicles parked in beauty spot car parks have also increased.
Purbeck Safer Neighbourhood Sergeant Jon Wasey, said: “We urge members of the public to take simple steps to ensure that they do not become a victim of vehicle crime.
“Leave nothing on display, whether parked on your driveway, visiting beauty spots, or in public car parks.”
Items being stolen include satellite navigation systems, and personal valuables.
“Work vehicles are also particularly vulnerable,” he added.
“We are urging our community to take time to remove tools from vehicles, and advertise the fact that nothing is left inside overnight.
“Please take time to visit the Purbeck Safer Neighbourhood team pages on the Dorset Police website.
“It contains the downloadable and printable document ‘I have no valuables in my vehicle’. Please display this in a prominent position within your vehicle, as this has proved to be a deterrent.”
