DORCHESTER Town could be without star striker Kieffer Moore at Tonbridge Angels tomorrow (3pm).

The 16-goal centre-forward picked up a thigh injury during the 2-1 win over Truro City on Tuesday and is rated at 50-50 to make the trip to Kent.

Magpies’ boss Phil Simkin, however, is hoping to have fellow frontman Ben Wat-son available again after he missed the midweek victory in Cornwall with a calf strain.

Captain Mark Jermyn played on after breaking his nose against Truro and is raring to go tomorrow while on-loan Liechtenstein international keeper Ben-jamin Büchel will be involved, either in the starting line-up or on the bench.

But Simkin’s and Dorchester’s main concern is the fitness of the deadly Moore, whose goals, including the two that saw off Truro, have already proved vital for his new club.

“Unfortunately, Kieffer took a knock to the thigh on Tuesday,” said Simkin. “It’s a bit too early to treat it properly so he has just had ice on it.

“I rate him at no more than 50-50 to be fit which is a blow but I’m hoping that Ben may declare himself fit.

“We only have two recognised forwards at the club but before Kieffer came we only had one. We managed, not particularly well, but we managed.

“But if they’re not fit then they’re not fit, it’s as simple as that.

“We can’t afford to risk players and then possibly have them out for a long period of time.”

On the impact Moore has made, he added: “His first goal on Tuesday night was pure quality and the lad is actually a better player than I thought he was.

“For his size he is quick as well as strong and definitely gives us a different dimension in attack.

“He is well on the way to getting the golden boot so Tonbridge will know he is a danger.”

A win tomorrow, plus other results going their way, could put the Magpies on the brink of a play-off place, something that did not look possible a month or so ago.

Currently 11th in Blue Square Bet South with 38 points, the county town side can really start looking up the table if they secure a fourth win in five at Tonbridge, who are just two points behind having beaten AFC Hornchurch on Tuesday.

“Forty points is not going to be enough to stay up this season,” said Simkin. “It’s going to be more like 45.

“We’ve done ourselves a lot of good in the last couple of weeks and 38 points from 27 games is a reasonable return for us.”
