CYCLISTS are needed to saddle up for the Coast to Coast Cycle Challenge in aid of the air ambulance.

The third annual Coast to Coast Cycle Challenge takes place on Sunday, May 19. Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance is organising the event as part of a major fundraising drive this year. The 54 mile cycle begins at Watchet Harbour, Somerset and ends at West Bay.

With only 600 entries available, the charity is expecting it to be a sell out and is encouraging people to enter as soon as possible.

Air ambulance crews attended 615 incidents in 2012. It compares to the 617 – just two more – the aircraft attended in 2011.

DSAA chief executive officer Bill Sivewright said: “Every one of the missions we fly is the result of somebody suffering a potentially life-threatening injury or accident.”

He added: “The funds raised by the people of Dorset and Somerset have, of course, been vital to delivering the service and we are grateful to them for their generous support.

Hi everyone. This event is unfortunately sold out! Today the 600th rider took the final spot! For those supporters out there, why not come and support those that are taking part along the route and cheer them on!
