PRIME SHOWCASE: Simon Read at Gallery On The Square
THE paintings of Bridport artist Simon Read have a prime showcase in a new exhibition.
The show, Beyond The Shoreline, at Gallery On The Square, Poundbury, features 20 of his atmospheric seascapes, all inspired by the sea and sky of the Dorset coast.
Simon can be found on the Lyme Bay shoreline in almost all weathers, making drawings and colour sketches which form the basis of his large-scale paintings in oil on canvas. Sunset is his favourite time of day.
He says: “I think most of us like spending some time on the beach, just gazing out to sea, and with me it’s almost an obsession.
“The sea and the sky – like the landscape – seem to mean something to all of us.
“The weather and the light are changing constantly; what I am out to do is capture the essence of one particular point in time.”
