Arsonists target Weymouth park Arsonists target Weymouth park

ARSONISTS have struck again in Littlemoor.

Police are appealing for witnesses after play equipment was torched last night.

The arson, in a park behind the Littlemoor Community Centre on Canberra Road, happened at around 9.20pm yesterday.

A Weymouth woman in her thirties sustained superficial burns trying to put the fire out.

Weymouth Neighbourhood Inspector Les Fry said: “This was another malicious fire in the Littlemoor area.

“Fortunately, nobody was seriously injured.

Dorset Police has been working hard with our partner agencies to ensure crime and anti-social behaviour is effectively tackled on the Littlemoor estate.

“We will not tolerate this sort behaviour and I urge witnesses to this incident and anyone with any information about those responsible to contact police as soon as possible.”

Dave Graham, Weymouth and Portland District Commander of Dorset Fire and Rescue, said: “Arson is extremely reckless and not only causes serious damage but ties up firefighters' time and resources when they could be dealing with a genuine emergency.

“All fire is extremely dangerous, and arson even more so as it can harm not only the individual setting the fire but also those community minded individuals who may try to extinguish it, plus of course our fire crews.”

Witnesses and anyone with information can call Dorset Police on 101 quoting incident number 25:450 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Turn on the street lights!

This will stop them!

The lights- we need the street lights back on!

Oh- 9.20pm you say? The street lights are still on....

No amount of streetlights will stop these morons from inflicting damage.

Guessing the 24x7 policecars patrolling the moor have recently stopped then...

Good to see the lockdown working.

Can you provide proof of this, or is it just another in a long line of pathetic comments from you?

Do you have any idea of the actual number of officers on duty at any one time? I imagine you'd be shocked!
I doubt that they have enough
resources to be constantly in Littlemoor at every minute of the day, hence incidents like this are still unfortunately likely to occur.

Imagine this scenario, you witness someone breaking into your car ( from the comfort of your arm chair) and call 999.
Whilst one or more cars attend to deal with your incident, something happens in Littlemoor.
That's life, stop moaning and try and say something remotely positively for a change!

I don't like to see a young persons life ruined, but we can't have a society where nobody is ever really punished. What kind of message does it send out when culprits are handed ASBO's etc..? We need swift, hard punishment for offenders, to encourage the rest to behave accordingly. When society lets them off, we are not only letting down the community, we are depriving future and current offenders the incentive to improve themselves. Effectively condemning the next generation to fall into the same trap. I say ENOUGH.

As a final note: successive governments have intentionally incouraged lawlessness through reducing sentences and giving cautions in place of convictions. These 'docile' voters have enabled the march of war and corperate profiteering. One option is to let the government (this or the next) fight it's wars abroad, so long as we don't have to fight crime on our streets. Seems a fair exchange for now..

I know that the last few times I've driven across to Co-op there have been police parked up on the Littlemoor Road with a speed gun out their window. Also, several occasions they've been parked up at the Bicombe exit of the smaller roundabout, watching the stones on sticks.... I did though see a lone Policewoman actually in Co-op the other night, sticking a map up on the notice board of the exclusion/dispersal zone,& talking to staff . They may well be underfunded & understaffed, but Littlemoor could really do with getting the plod using up a bit more petrol driving round the estate, rather than parking up on the main road & waiting for a (otherwise law abiding) motorist to drive past at 34mph at 9:30pm.

When they are caught, sterilise them. Stop them producing the next generation of scumbags.
