Bridport's town crier has important red-nosed announcement to make

Bridport’s fun-loving town crier has an important red-nosed announcement to make.

Jane Silver-Corren is hoping to make Bridport resound with the sound of community singing for this year’s Red Nose Day.

Jane, pictured, is hoping to lead a marathon Singalongathon in the town and surrounding area on Friday March 15 – and needs plenty of voices to join her.

She is hoping to whiz round Bridport as a manic singing telegram for 14 hours of singing from 9am.

“Venues could include pubs, schools, community halls, work places, shops, people’s homes, swimming pools, at the sea, round the pond, anywhere,” said Jane.

“If people contact me, I will try and fit everyone in to a mutually convenient time during the day.”

It won't be the first time that Jane has stepped up to raise cash for Red Nose Days.

She has raised £1,600 by being a singing alien and by hitch-hiking from Bridport to Penzance dressed as a chicken.

“That was really good fun!” she recalled.

“I hope people will sponsor me – and give me a call if they want me to come and get a sing-song going.”

Anyone who wants to join the Singa- longathon can call Jane on 07887 675161. Her sponsorship form is in the Bridport Music record shop in South Street and she can be sponsored through the rednose day.com/giving page.

Nice to see an article featuring a town crier that ISN'T the Dorchester one!

From reading the Echo, one would think our county had only one that was ever worthy of mention.

Best of luck Jane.
