ROADWORKS: The A35 will be closed
MOTORISTS face diversions via Yeovil when the A35 is closed in west Dorset for essential maintenance work.
The stretch between Bridport and Axminster will be shut for five nights from Monday March 18 to Friday March 22 into the early hours of Saturday March 23.
The work includes surface repairs and replacement of studs and white lining.
It will take place between 8pm and 6am.
The Highways Agency said that signed diversion routes will be in place throughout the closures and local access will be maintained.
Project spokesman Chris Pope said, “This maintenance is being carried out when traffic flows are at their lowest to cause the least possible disruption but we would advise road users to allow slightly more time for their journeys.” The main diversion route for westbound through traffic will be onto the A37 at the Monkey’s Jump Roundabout, near Dorchester, towards Yeovil.
At Yeovil traffic will be directed onto the A3088 to its junction with the A303 at Cartgate Roundabout. Traffic will then use the A303/A30 to Honiton. The reverse will apply for eastbound traffic. There will also be extra local diversions.
The first closure will be on Monday night into Tuesday morning. The last closure will be Friday night into Saturday morning.
The Highways Agency is an agency of the Department for Transport. It manages, maintains and improves England’s motorways and strategic roads.
