Women’s Action Network Dorset hosts Dorset Women’s Day
1:00pm Tuesday 5th March 2013 in News By Harry Hogger
CELEBRATION: WAND march through Dorchester
WOMEN will be getting together to enjoy a range of activities and workshops at an event in Dorchester.
WAND, the Women’s Action Network Dorset, is hosting its annual Dorset Women’s Day event at the Dorford Centre in the county town on Saturday.
The event is being held to celebrate International Women’s Day and will be opened by WAND patron and local broadcaster Tracey West, who will also be reading extracts from her latest book – The Poetry of Divorce – on the day.
Admission to the event, which runs from 10.30am to 4pm, is free and organisers are promising that there will be lots to keep all women of all ages entertained.
WAND member Jackie Young and her staff will be putting offering free crèche facilities and there will be a chance to buy homemade cakes and refreshments created by WAND volunteers.
A spokeswoman for WAND said: “There will be something for everyone, from a host of stallholders selling a variety of wonderful items to appeal to women of all ages, plus information stands promoting everything relating to womanhood as well as a varied and exciting range of workshops.”
The workshops include jewellery making with long-time WAND supporter Cath Coffin and a singing workshop with WAND member Hilary Foggo, as well as the returned of Vicky Gray’s popular House of Colour workshop.
There will also be a dance workshop, insights into book publishing and opportunities for women to try their hands at crafts such as creating a sock animal.
There will be new additions to this year’s event as well including the Rummage Room, which will give people attending the chance to donate unwanted clothes, jewellery and other items for WAND to sell and raise funds for their annual Reclaim the Night March.
For more information about the day contact Emma on 01202 252204 or Toni on 01305 848689.

Can you imagine a men only event that bans women and spends the whole night declaring them perpetrators of everything evil and victims of nothing?
Anything to do with these groups, just reverse the gender mentioned and you instantly see how intolerable it really is to any civilised person.
Now, Reclaim the night movement/network is just that, it is not a registered charity, neither is WAND. They are all therefore unaccountable to anyone. Even so these groups have the direct ear and access of our gullible police officials, M.P's, senior council officials and of course elected officials.
"Dorset women's day" by WAND has also been sponsored by the following bodies and company's:
West Dorset District Council, Dorset Cereals, Dorset Squared, McCarthy and Stone, Olives et Al, Poundbury Garden Centre, ReplensMD and Vitabiotics.
Yet they are not a registered charity or an official body?
They also meet in big meetings where men's groups are not invited and male victims and men's needs are deliberately ignored.
Sound transparent, democratic or anything to do with equality does it? No, exactly.

Why do some men moan about us being having womens events and organisations?- they could actually get off their bottoms and organise their own events - after all WI has been around a long time but still no mens institute!
Men can and have come to womens day, and lots of women really enjoy it!
The event that was sponsored by the above quoted comment was a few years ago - as a voluntary constituted group we were proud to have worked so hard to get sponsorship to put on a free day attended by over 500 people. Not sure why sparkleeyes has a problem with this ?
The people organising the FREE event and running the workshops give their time and energy free of charge - any offers of bricklaying etc would have been greatly appreciated = where were they I wonder????!!
Oh - the reason men don't get invited to reclaim is as we have some very vulnerable women attending who are fleeing DV ,and yes , of course we are aware that men are victims too, so I am sure any mens groups out there would be happy to run a similar event for men? wouldn't they?

So on the issue of meetings, why did you not invite a men's group to the meeting with police, council and yourselves. Do you not care about the near 50% of victims that are men?
It is obvious a group that only cares about one gender, is bigoted and sexist.

It is all in the links at the top.
P.S Where was your voice when our cllr. Christine James beat her husband and was convicted for domestic violence?
You are soon on it when a man simply says something bad as we have seen this week? So why did you stay quiet when a woman did it? After all you say yourself it is not right when either do it, so how come?
..or was it aside form being a woman, it was also because she was helping women's groups you raise money?

In a civilised country all gender based groups should be banned as they are ridiculous really, all resources should be allocated based on need. Clearly everything from Cancer research to domestic violence the funding is grotesquely disproportionate to the figures in the favour of women.
Why don't you complain about that if you care so much about ALL victims?.

Thanks susieb but i think a male network would be best set up and operated by males
53% of child murders are perpetrated by mothers.
Just kidding, but statistics are fun.

When you shout so loud against female perpetrators and speak of ALL victims instead of just women, maybe I will think otherwise of you.

Deleted for a couple of days by the Echo zombies, then put back up when it was raised on two other stories with someone who had their comments deleted also.
Screen grabs kept.
They are assisting well it seems to make others aware of what feminism is, the nastiness and hypocrisy that resides behind these groups and how it has to rely on lies and dirty tactics to operate.
Anyway, It's not kidding at all James, around 64% of child abuse across the board is perpetrated by women, but you won't hear them demonise women in their propaganda do you, why not? Why si nearly all TV adverts showing the male as the perpetrator? You will rarely see these women get arrested let alone found guilty and even if they are on average women get far lower sentences for the same crimes.
Equality..yeah right ?

We havent had a closed meeting with councillors and police - we have held a drop in event open to everyone, and widely publicised...
We are not political, we are just ordinary women, doing what we want - many of us married to ( real )MEN who don't feel threatened by females supporting each other, and many of us have SONS who we love dearly, so we are definitely not anti men!

Our local councils have already banned posters for international men's day from their buildings, then just ignored complaints about it. Deleted male victims of domestic violence comments of disgust on their social networks, while keeping on a female councillor who was a violent criminal and committed D.V on her husband, a female that used to officially support and be very involved with these very groups I might add.
What rank hypocrisy !
