Precious memories for families
2:00pm Wednesday 6th March 2013 in News
FAMILIES who have lost babies or children are invited to come together with others for a ‘precious memories’ service.
A gathering is being held in Weymouth for the third year to remember young ones who have died, in a ‘spirit of sharing and supporting’.
Joyce Fannon, from the Weymouth and District Life Group, which sponsors the event, said there will be readings, live music, candles for people to light, time for quiet reflection or prayer, and an opportunity to put names in a remembrance book. People with or without faith are welcome and the gathering lasts for one hour.
Mrs Fannon is helping to organise the event along with the Rev Betty Port from St Andrew’s Church and Mary Wilkins from St Augustine’s School.
They are supported by Dr Jeremy Parkinson, Dr Sarita de Kretser, Dr John Fannon, Mary Jennings and Jill Mason.
The organising team were saddened to hear of the death late last year of Sister Bernadette of the Convent of Mercy, who supported previous events and was skilled in bereavement support.
Mrs Fannon said people are welcome into the church hall after the service where refreshments will be provided.
“Interestingly, this social aspect has developed friendships and an element of self-help,” Mrs Fannon added.
The gathering will take place at St Mary’s Church, St Mary Street, Weymouth, on March 17 at 2pm.
