Weymouth travel agency facing uncertain future

WEYMOUTH staff face an uncertain future after travel agent Thomas Cook announced plans to axe 2,500 jobs.

Thomas Cook announced plans to consult on proposals to close 195 of its 1,069 high street travel agencies.

The company said it is making cuts to ‘secure’ its future and provide continued employment for thousands of employees across the UK.

A spokesman for Thomas Cook said the company were discussing the proposals with staff today and further details would be available shortly.

Staff at the St Mary’s Street store said they could not comment on the issue.

They might not comment on the issue, but I will....

Booked some foreign currency with them with plenty of time before a holiday, and they messed around for 2 weeks before telling me 2 days before the holiday they couldn't get it in time. (It turns out they were trying to save money by batching up travel money requests and save money on their transaction costs).

In the end we went elsewhere and never used them again. I'm guessing i'm not the only person they hacked off with their incompetence.

If they are made redundant, then it's their past performance finally catching up with them.

Well 1/5 are closing then and 4/5 are staying open, I hope for the staff here in Weymouth they are one of the shops that get to stay open.
