Donate to help Beaminster’s big day out event
DONATIONS are needed to help bring a west Dorset community together for a great day out.
Beaminster’s Big Day will see local schools and youth groups unite to create a vibrant carnival of giant insects moving to the music of a marching band.
There will be a whole range of entertainment from street theatre, Slinkies, parachuting teddy bears, music and dance.
The community day takes place on July 7 and is the finale of the Beaminster Festival which begins on Sunday, June 30.
Organisers are hoping that this year’s events will bring an economic boost for the town.
Big Day is funded by the Beaminster Festival, local sponsors and grants from the Dorset Community Foundation and the Arts Council, but more donations are needed.
Organiser David Wootton said: “The event costs a lot of money, but we know that it will benefit the local economy. “For every £1 spent on making the event happen, there will be £3 of revenue generated in the local economy.”
He added: “With the challenges posed by the closure of the tunnel, Beaminster needs this sort of economic boost.”
The Do It for Dorset campaign is a joint initiative between the Dorset Echo and the Dorset Community Foundation – a registered charity dedicated to promoting charitable giving and grant making for charities and community groups across the county.
The foundation works with secret millionaires, family businesses and companies who want to give back to their community.
Do It for Dorset aims to raise awareness and funds for charities signed up to localgiving.com.
£100 would pay for a workshop
EXAMPLES of how your donation can help: £10 pays for materials for carnival costumes, £30 pays for instruments for the marching band and £100 pays for one dance or carnival arts workshop.
