Developers fail with home development attempt in Dorchester

DEVELOPERS have failed in an appeal after being refused permission for a ten-home development on the edge of Dorchester.

West Dorset District Council rejected an application to demolish the existing buildings and build ten three-bed houses at Came View Road in November last year.

However, Fresh Developments Ltd decided to take the matter to appeal in a bid to get the decision overturned.

Planning inspector Jennifer Armstrong investigated the matter and dismissed the appeal.

She said the main issues were the proposed density and layout of the scheme, the effect on adjoining residents and the potential archaeological significance of the site.

The inspector said: “In see no objection in principle to the redevelopment of the site.

“But the proposed density and layout would be inappropriate, failing to respect the detailed form and features of the site – and also the particular character and appearance of the estate of which it would be a prominent part.”

I hope that WDDC planners take note of this rejection when they look at the proposed developement of 1000 houses in the flood plain on Came Park View.
